Understanding Jeep’s Trim Levels

Before getting into the various new Jeeps, it’s important to understand the different trim levels. They’re not the same across the various models, make sure you understand all of your options when buying a Jeep.

Sometimes you’ll have the option to combine trim levels, giving you a ‘best of both worlds’ kind of experience. No matter which trim level you opt for, though, any Jeep you hop into is exciting, capable of more than you can imagine, and ready for your next adventure.

So, let’s take a look at the various trim levels:

Altitude

This trim level falls under the Luxury Trim Level section, offering a few appearance upgrades. Altitude Jeeps often come with bigger wheels and high gloss black interior and exterior accents.

You’ll be able to choose the Altitude trim in the Cherokee, Renegade, and Wrangler models.

But the 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe will allow you to choose an even more luxurious trim level – High Altitude. This trim offers 21-inch gloss black aluminum wheels, roof rails, and high gloss interior and exterior accents.

Summit

This is another luxury trim, also exclusive to the Grand Cherokee. Often the Summit and High-Altitude trims are combined, giving you a super luxurious looking and feeling Jeep. But there are a few added creature comforts with Summit Grand Cherokees. For example, this trim level offers automatic parking, rear air conditioning, and so much more.

You also have the option of the Summit Reserve, which offers everything the summit trim offers and more. For example, these Jeeps will have a 19-speaker McIntosh Speaker System and an interactive passenger display, and much more.

Trailhawk

The Trailhawk trim is offered across various Jeep models, including the Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Renegade, and Compass. It’s a small upgraded trim level, offering minor tweaks and features not available in the base model of these Jeeps.

The Trailhawk trim focuses on some off-road features, so you can happily take your Jeep off the beaten path. Some off-road features include the standard 4×4 system, skid plates, and high-tech traction management. You’ll also find a few appearance upgrades, such as Trailhawk badges, a new Trailhawk-specific hood, and unique interior accents.

Overland

This is yet another luxury trim level offered on the Gladiator and the various Cherokee models, including the Grand Cherokee. This trim level is very similar to the High Altitude, but it offers a few more luxurious touches.

Overland Jeeps front and rear heated seats, 20-inch wheels, Quadra-lift air suspension, and a few appearance upgrades. These upgrades included luxurious door panels, chrome tow hooks in the front, and a wood and leather steering wheel.

Sport

The Sport trim level is the base level for the Wrangler. There are few luxuries, but the main focus is offering owners the bare necessities for any off-road adventure.

There are also a Sport S and Sport Altitude options which offer a few minor luxury upgrades.

Rubicon

If you’re looking for the ultimate off-roading Jeep, however, then the Rubicon Trim Level is what you need. It’s offered in both the Wrangler and Gladiator and focuses on off-roading in style.

Rubicon Jeeps have leather-wrapped steering wheels, a 7-inch infotainment display, and a few other creature comforts. Its off-roading features include an electronic sway bar disconnect and electronic locking differentials. These Jeeps also come with 33-inch all-terrain tires, a 4:1 low transfer case, and much, much more.

Sahara

If you love the Jeep Wrangler but aren’t an off-road fanatic, then the Sahara is perfect for you. This trim offers several luxury finishes, including cloth low-back bucket seats and automatic air conditioning.

You can also choose the Sahara Altitude trim level, which gives you leather seats and a few other upgrades.

A 2022 Guide to New Jeep Models

Now that we understand the various Trim Levels, let’s take a look at the all-new 2022 Jeep models.

Wrangler

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler doesn’t offer many changes, with its Trim Levels mostly receiving a few minor tweaks. The Wrangler Sport and Sport S models now offer infotainment systems and rear cameras for ParkView.

The Rubicon and Sahara Jeeps also receive a few touch-ups, with both offering an 8.4-inch touchscreen display and keyless entry. There’s also a new paint finish, Silver Zynith, which replaces the Billet Silver.

Cherokee

The new Jeep Cherokee offers a new trim level, X. While it’s very similar to the Trailhawk Cherokee, the X trim level isn’t as off-road capable. Although, it does replace the base Altitude and Latitude trims.

Grand Cherokee

The 2022 Grand Cherokee sees a few more changes, however. You’ll now be able to buy a hybrid Grand Cherokee, called the Grand Cherokee 4xe.

You’ll be able to equip trim level to the 4xe, except for the base Laredo and Altitude trims.

That’s not all though. This new model now comes with a sway bar disconnect and electronic semi-active damping for its Quadra-Lift air suspension. This all makes for a far better off-roading experience.

There are also a few creature comfort upgrades, including a new 10.1-inch infotainment system. Passengers also benefit from the new grand Cherokee as it offers a 10.25-inch interactive display for front passengers and a 10.1-inch HD display for rear passengers. These displays all have FireTV capabilities.

Compass

In 2022, the Compass gets a litany of new updates. From a new trim level, Latitude Lux, redesigned taillights and headlights, to several upgrades to its interior.

The 2022 Compass offers more upholstery and a 10.1-inch infotainment display, along with a new digital cluster. It’s also a safer car, now offering active lane management, full-speed collision warnings, lane departure warnings, and blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alerts.

Gladiator

There are also a few updates to this year’s Gladiator, all of which are creature comfort upgrades. The new Sport now offers a 7-inch infotainment system, while higher spec models have an 8.4-inch screen. These higher-end Gladiators also feature keyless entry and an Alpine Audio system.

Wagoneer

The Wagoneer makes a comeback in 2022, coming with a mild-hybrid e-train powertrain and an automatic transmission.

The Wagoneer is the epitome of luxury, offering a standard 3-row cabin. Depending on your trim, you can get captain’s chairs for the second row. A few standard features include a 10.25-inch digital cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with the ability to WiFi hotspot.

Like the compass, the Wagoneer comes with a host of safety features, including but not limited to active lane management and blind-spot warning.

Grand Wagoneer

The Grand Wagoneer is the most expensive Jeep on the market, offering a host of luxurious features.

It’s essentially the standard Wagoneer, but more. For example, the Grand Wagoneer comes with a 23-speaker McIntosh Audio system, a highly-premium interior, and 4-zone climate control. It also comes with over 100 safety features.

Renegade

The Renegade also receives a very minor refresh across its various trim levels. The Sport and Latitude Renegades now get a touchscreen infotainment system. On the other hand, the higher spec trims, like the Limited, get 18-inch wheels and slight design changes to the front facia and rear valance.

The Renegade now offers a 1.3-liter turbo engine, which replaces the 2.5-liter engine.
