2019 Ram 1500 Homer Skelton Millington

How do you choose in a long list of trucks based on efficiency, feature sets, and power? Is it possible to find that sweet spot?

Enter the Ram 1500 Diesel.

This all-new truck may be the single best truck on the block for a number of reasons. Let’s take a look at what features and changes in this particular model make it stand out from the rest of the competition.

Ram 1500 Diesel: The Basics

First of all, why don’t we take a look at a bird’s eye view of the Diesel Ram 1500?

This truck sports an impressive 395 maximum horsepower and nearly 10,000 pounds of towing capability. “Rough, rugged, and ready” is a bit of an understatement for this particular truck.

There is plenty of variations between different models, powertrain options, and packages, too, but the base packages gets the following:

  • 3.6-liter, V6 engine
  • 8-speed automatic transmission
  • 33-gallon fuel tank
  • Anti-spin differential rear axle (for equal torque)
  • Class IV receiver hitches
  • Comfortable leather interior
  • UConnect digital media center and other modern entertainment features

Plus, plenty of this can be upgraded, such as the 3.6-liter, V6 engine to a 5.7 V8.

Efficiency and Power Combined

Whether it’s cars or trucks, you often have to weigh the pros and cons of efficiency and power. Can’t have too much power without losing efficiency or increase efficiency without sacrificing power.

A lot of that changes with the all-new Ram 1500 Diesel, which is actually why this is often referred to as the “Ram EcoDiesel.”

This base V6 engine boasts up to 27 miles-per-gallon efficiency (on the highway), which is even on par with some sedans, let alone comparable trucks. The often compared alternative, the Ford F-150, falls short in the low to mid-20s.

Now, if you’ve recently browsed for cars, you may have seen a common trend of 30-35 mpg. While the Diesel Ram 1500 still falls short of those specs, the important thing to keep in mind is what you’re getting.

Even with the base engine, you can count on almost 1,700 pounds of cargo carrying capacity and over 9,000 pounds of towing capability.

“How was Ram able to pack this much power and efficiency into one package?” you might ask. It’s due to a combination of smart engineering and high-quality parts, including:

  • A mixture of graphite iron and aluminum twin-cam heads
  • Active Air grille shutters
  • Diesel particulate filter
  • Diesel oxidation catalyst

With an engine set up like this, it’s easy to see how the Ram 1500 Diesel passes emission tests throughout the United States. Therefore, it’s a safer and better alternative for the environment around you.

Whether that matters to you or not, you can at least enjoy the power of a diesel pickup truck but with environmental peace of mind.

Comfort and Size

Even though it’s pretty much in the name itself, efficiency isn’t the only benefit this truck has to offer.

A pickup truck is more than just a tool to load, carry, and transport things. You still need to drive in it, and you still should expect to enjoy that drive. In fact, for some people, this will still be an everyday commuter vehicle.

The 2019 version of this truck increased the total cab length by four inches. Four inches may not seem like a big difference, but when you’re talking about leg room (especially for passengers), it is.

The seats for the “Tradesman” package come in cloth or vinyl. While no leather options are included, some people definitely prefer the no-fuss aesthetic of cloth or vinyl.

Some models give you a little more choice of cloth interior, including flashy accents. Upgraded models, such as the “Laramie,” get you plush leather, which can be stylish and ultra comfortable for some people.

A 151-liter center console and 40-liter under seat storage compartments give you plenty of interior storage for things like tie-downs, hitches, etc.

Entertainment

It’s 2019, and there’s probably a miniature computer in your pocket that can call people, access your banking, watch videos, listen to music, and more.

We live in an age with on-the-go entertainment, and it’s not different for your vehicle. The Diesel Ram 1500 features a 12-inch UConnect display. It gives you easy access to GPS navigation, radio, Bluetooth connection, and a host of apps just like your smartphone.

The interior is equipped with active noise canceling technology that shields you from the sounds of the outside world. It makes for an incredibly peaceful and quiet ride, and it’s a good thing, too.

You’ll want to hear everything this sound system has to offer, seeing as how it’s fitted with award-winning Harman Kardon speakers.

Safety Features

If you’re pushing your 1500 EcoDiesel to its limits, that means you’re driving a massive truck carrying massive amounts of cargo. It can get fast dangerous, especially over long distances, so, thankfully, Ram didn’t skimp on safety features in 2019.

One of the biggest improvements here is the Blind Spot Monitoring, which not only indicates vehicles in your truck’s blind spot but accounts for your trailer as well. Most comparable pickup trucks don’t account for the additional length of any cargo you’re towing.

Smart Cruising gives you cruise control (obviously) but accounts for the distance of vehicles in front of you. Your truck has the ability to adjust speed to keep at safe distances at all times.

Find Yourself the Best Truck in 2019

When it comes to current trucks on the market in 2019, there are a lot of factors to consider, such as towing and carrying capacity, comfort, power, etc. One of the biggest advantages of the Ram 1500 Diesel is its near-perfect balance between power and efficiency.

The EcoDiesel engine is more efficient than most comparable trucks but still as powerful and capable for all your transportation needs. All the comfort, safety, and entertainment features are just the cherry on top.
